  1. Always use spell check. Read through whatever you write, and return to it later to check it again before using it.

  2. Choose two colors to represent your business, and use them over and over to cement your company’s visual brand in the minds of your audience.

  3. Underlined text should only be used on a web site to indicate a link. To emphasize a word, use italicsbold, or make it larger.

  4. Don’t “smoosh” your logo to fit into a space. Respect the integrity of your logo!

  5. Make sure all text is easy to read. Is it large enough? Can you see the text on the background you’ve placed it on?

  6. When typing, leave one space between the end of one sentence and the beginning of the next. Two spaces are too much, and leave visual “holes” in the middle of your paragraphs.

  7. Choose typefaces that are readable and clear. Remember, marketing is about communication.

  8. Keep it simple. People are busy, so make sure your marketing piece is clear, and the main point stands out.

  9. Check that visual elements relate to one another. Consider using a grid to help line things up.

  10. Break up large blocks up text with subheads, bulleted lists and short paragraphs.
